Apple Crumble Serves 3-4
Ingredients For the crumble: 300g Maple Farm Kelsale organic unbleached white flour, sieved; 175g brown sugar; 200g butter (preferably unsalted), cubed (room temperature); extra butter for greasing For the filling: 500g organic cooking apples, peeled, cored and cut into cubes (approx 1cm); 50g brown sugar; 1 tbsp organic unbleached white flour; a pinch of ground cinnamon
Method Preheat the oven to 180C/Gas Mark 4.
Place the flour and brown sugar in a large bowl and mix well. Taking a few cubes of butter at a time rub into the flour mixture. Keep adding butter and rubbing until the mixture is close to breadcrumb texture. Place the cubed apples in a large bowl and sprinkle over the sugar, flour and cinnamon. Stir well but be very careful not to break up the fruit.
Grease an ovenproof dish with butter and spoon the fruit mixture into the bottom. Now sprinkle the crumble mixture on top. Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until the crumble is browned and the fruit mixture bubbling.
